"My question was basically, what are the things that you found on photoshop that you liked/felt that missed in gimp?"

@Jerry, It's more of a opposite answer to your question, one of the things I loved about GIMP compared to Photoshop was the Pen Anchor tool thingy to cut things out of images. Granted the "wizard" tool in Photoshop is nice and a quick way to deal with most images, but when colors start fading together Photoshop is not that great at depicting the difference (Maybe the newest versions have gotten better, just going off the version I have). With the pen tool, although it was timely, I felt it was easier to cut out an image, especially when you zoom in and do it somewhat pixel by pixel. Gave it more of a "professional" look/feel since I was able to get right on the color separating lines.  I don't know if this helps you out at all or answers anything, but that's one of the things that popped up in my head first.

Ah, I see that. Well, I don't know about photoshop, but GIMP has the wizard tool too and you can adjust the extent to select a colour. For example, you can set it to catch all the nearby tones of an area, as well as make it select only one particular tone. :)

Hey, Jerry! Thank you for recommend me GIMP in a topic. Can you please tell me how can you make that flowers with <No Background>? Please, that would help me with a problem to school.

You first right click on the image, then,

Layer > Transparency > Add Alpha Channel

Nothing visible will happen.

Now, click on the fuzzy selector tool (the magic wand) and click on the white background, then click delete. Voila, you'll get a checkered background of black and gray which represents transparency. Be careful about small white spots which you will need to delete too.
