Hmm, yeah. All the pokemon games have been very linear, but at least some of them gave the illusion of being more open eg g/s/c with the Kanto region being opened up after the player defeats the Elite Four. Black/white is quite possibly one of the worst offenders map-wise, as you travel in a great big circle, with the occasional side path.
