I don't think it's a very good idea now - but it can be tweaked to make it work.

Think about it, how would you feel if you lost one of your beloved Pokemon? If someone stole my Caterpie, I would probably never want to play this game again.   :'(

I know how you feel about it, If somebody managed to steal My Salamence once I get one in this game, I would be devastated beyond belief.  But Don't give up hope, If someone steals my pokemon, I will use it as a motivation to train harder (Insert the song Live to win by Paul Stanley) and one day, i will make my move to regain my pokemon!

And what happens if the harder you train the more pokemon are stolen from you (for they are more worth stealing!) ::)

In case I didn't mention it, I don't like this idea. Maybe just making teams like this, with no 'special' privilege accorded, but only different quests perhaps, then probably, I would like it.
No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

I think having opposite "factions" is a good idea, but the stealing pokemon idea i dont like, its a bit much, something along those lines is good though, jus not as extreme as taking someones pokemon, lol. Like different faction quests, maybe each faction gets access to different pokemon easier than the other (can still get the other pokemon jus not as easy as ur opposing faction and visa versa)

The problem is that this is an MMO, it'll be a huge work I guess to make it the way you just mentioned, Skilganon. Some pokemon will be programmed to be less rare to a group, others to another group and those who don't want to be in any (that might happen) will have another programming for the pokemon availability, and neither of three should overlap to keep things smooth.

For now, I think most of us agree on fact, that pokemon shouldn't be stolen, as for the good and bad side, I'm in! It would really be interesting to be in  ____________ (enter name of the evil organization), to have diffrent qests, diffrent storyline,...

Thats true, but each "faction" could have different starting locations lets say, and each starting location has different starting pokemon, and it would be harder to get to these locations for the opposing "faction" which not only keeps each faction semi_unidue to the other it will also motivate players to explore a bit more for the sake of increasing the number of pokemon they have, if that makes any sense, lol.

I see the purpose... but when someone wants to shift faction? ::)

I can clearly imagine some people getting the easier to find pokemon, then change faction to get the other set of rare pokemon.

Or we might get three friends choosing different factions, they trade the 'rarer' pokemon to each other, thus nullifying the exploration factor.

Good point, but possibly the option to change faction just shouldnt exist, and could do something like no cross faction trading, seeing as they would technically be opposing factions, interactions like that wouldnt make sense, like was said at the begining "dark and light side" "good and evil" it could also give leway for some very interesting events, also the tournements could be more interesting if you had opposing faction teams for example, kind of like horde and alliance in WoW but without the language barrier and location restrictions.
