Aggron can learn some pretty weird special attacks. (Thunder and Flamethrower???)

Lol, Aggron is rock/steel, so it gets x4 damage with fighting and ground (the move types which I consider as very common among competitive battling). From electric though, it gets normal damage, the steel doesn't make it weaker to electricity :)

Yes... but I think since the only move super effective on electric type pokemon was ground, they tried to limit the super effective coverage of electric type attacks... that's just my opinion.

Best steel type?
skarmory is good. covers his bases with the flying type, but is way weak to fire.
aggron's def is off the charts a lil too. i have one lvl 50 and his def is around 220, so he can take a hit unless the hit is a ground type or fighting type move. in that cases he is pretty much wasted.
personally, i prefer metagross because of the damage he can deal, but if you are looking for a steel type that can cover himself, empoleon is probably what you're looking for

You guys are forgetting about special defense. One it from a special attacker and most of your favorite steel types are done for.
I choose Metagross because it has some of the highest overall stats, and its special defense isn't that low. It is also good in attack, but lacks speed. Other than that, Metagross is a good, powerful Pokemon with a good type.

As I said earlier, each steel usually has a unique something about them that makes them better than others at a job.

Aggron has an amazing attack stat, and with STAB no-recoil Head Smash, he can really lay down the hurt. Metagross makes an excellent Agility user, having a pretty hefty attack stat underneath him. He can also learn explosion. Steelix makes a very great tank or physical wall. He's also not a half bad Curser, but don't expect it to happen often. Registeel, on the other hand, is a fantastic special wall. Scizor is a beautiful revenge killer with Choice Band STAB Bullet Punch. Bronzong is practically the ultimate utility 'mon. There is not much he can't do.

So, it depends on what you want.
