Salamence banned from OU

What do you guys think about Salamence being banned from OU? I think it wasn't a good choice, myself.

Salamence and Garchomp needed to be moved up. Every kid and his mum had at least one of these when they were in OU, and now people actually have to think for themselves to come up with a better party.
The thrill in playing a game does not come from our chances of winning. It is the weight and pressure of losing that fuels our fascination. It is why people challenge, why they gamble and why they compete. The adrenaline that comes from defying defeat is what motivates us.

Garchomp maybe but Salamance eh not really. With a 4x weakness to ice he is easy to kill if your prepared for him.

A baseless opinion is useless.

Perhaps you could give us specifics?

Sorry. I didn't make myself clear.

Salamence has a horrible weakness to Ice, and Stealth Rock would take away 25% of its HP.

Even though Salamence may have an incredible movepool, it still has too many weaknesses. It should have never become an Uber.

Yeah, sorry. I forgot that the single most devasting type in the game 'sux'. Especially with the one one resistance, huge Base Power, and stats to rival most Ubers.

/sarcasm

And I fully support Salamence going into Ubers. Hell, I was one of the suspect voters that put him there. Something I will enlighten a lot of our users about, that they don't seem to understand, is that Smogon and its tiers are based of usage. Over Used (OU) are the top 50 Pokemon seen on nearly every team you go up against in there alloted tier. [That's how Alakazam made it down to UU. He is powerful, but people just didn't use him enough. He dropped to rank 50 on usage and was lowered to the next tier, UU.] ) Everything under that is Under Used (UU.) Then you have Never Used even further below that.

Now, I haven't checked the usage statistics for August, (Before he was banned) but I know that back in July Salamence was seen on nearly 13% of all teams recorded. (Out of over half a million battles.) Right, so he doesn't see a lot of play at all.

That aside, the reason he sees so much play? Because he is a dominating force in the metagame. Almost every team had to have a counter for Salamence. It was unacceptable to have a Salamence weakness. Dragonite, with his lower speed, is more flexible. And Flygon doesn't have the same offensive power. Kindgra, while boasting both, requires set up to be that powerful. Salamence could come straight from his ball, fire off a few huge Base Power attacks, and almost guarantee a 1 for 1 on the enemies team.

That hasn't been seen since Garchomp. So, I'm happy he's gone. Dragonite, Flygon, and Kingdra have seen a lot more use now. It's finally time for other 'mon to shine in his place. And, for the first time in a long ass time, the metagame knows what it's like to see some diversity. (Though, Heatran and Scizor are still seen way too much.)

wat?

And Kingdra, Palkia, and Dialga take neutral damage from ice. Latias, Latios, and Girantina all take 2x to ice. That's not even factoring in the newest ones in Generation 5.

Every powerful pokemon has its weakness. Had Nintendo created a pokemon with no weakness and god-like stats, well, there will be no fun point in playing.

That said, having a weakness doesn't automatically mean that it's not powerful. One of the reasons that dragons get x4 damage to ice is that they would otherwise be too powerful. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

I don't care about the weaknesses, I just play to have fun, get/devise/guess strategies to beat such and such pokemon team.

No one can go back and change a bad beginning; but anyone can start now and create a successful ending.
If a problem can be solved, no need to worry about it. If it cannot be solved what is the use of worrying?

But... Latias, Latios and Giratina do take x2 damage to ice... ::)

Thanks for pointing that out, Jerry. I was tired when I wrote that and what I was thinking didn't quite make it to the post. Edited.

I understand, I do these too when I'm tired. I'll have to edit my post now :)

Back when I played Shoddy Battle, I saw Salamence often. Though he wasn't always hard to deal with. Anything with ice shard would mow him down, and I even had an Infernape with hidden power ice and no EVs in special attack that could OHKO a Salamence that switched in. He's a great sweeper, but he's not the one I'm most afraid of. Gyarados is because once he uses a DD he's faster than just about any unbuffed pokemon out there, and there's no priority electric move.

wow i was so mean back when i first started posting sry to everyone i offended... but i know the game says they only have x2 weakness and all that stuff it really dont show if u play it out u'll see they ALL take alotta get ko'd after one ice beam from anything with an average speacial. u may not like it but play it out and see... but even that isnt the serious problem the problem is ice and electric moves are learned by just about anyone nowa days actually even in the old games almost everyone can use ice or electric moves so there for dragons and flying types i don't usually favor but gyarados can be a BIG problem at times if ur not prepared for it.

it is funny though two of my faves are charizard and crobat...both flying types trust me i hate electric moves from non electric pokemon
