pvp choice?
« on: January 03, 2011, 03:15:02 PM »
i was thinking that in pvp battles that are not tourneys, why not let the players decide on the rules.
ex: let them pick if it's 3v3 or 6v6 or a double battle or not.

in the case of a disagreement make a 60 sec or so timer and if no agreement can be made before it expires random rules are selected.
also you can't do a 6v6 if one trainer does not have a full team.

Pretty good idea, actually.

The idea is interesting indeed.
I dont like the random part thought.
I would much better like it to be

"if two people chose different battle styles, the options will automatically be set to standard"

i thought i would make it seem more like a real pokemon experience cause in the show the trainers always seem to agree on certain rules that are open to change

Outside of Tournament settings, I agree with Gammal that it would be a fun thing for trainers. And it wouldn't be too hard to work out.

My idea would be more of a battle area in every town (Similar to a gym in setting) where trainers could go to compete like you suggested. Think similar to the battling area in the Pokemon Centers. They would set up the rules for the fight, the other players would agree to them, and then away to battling!

I think battling out in the woods, with no rules to speak of, would add character as well. It's almost like a battle away from the watchful eyes of everyone else, where anything goes and it's up to the trainers to stick by what they say.

But I'm rambling and I digress.

no rules would be kinda cool but i feel like it would start a crazy amount of pointless arguments between trainers

Good idea.
I'm back! But guess what: You didn't care, because I'm a nobody!

Who needs a signature? It just takes up too much room. Those friggin huge images and massive amounts of text confuse me as to whether the signature is the actual post or not.
That being said...

Maybe there could be a battle arena, in the main town/city or two or three, and their all connected and you enter in the settings you want then it will put you up against another trainer with those settings.

A battle area in a Pokémon Centre would be good, and it would be realistic if that was structured, then battles out in the open should just be no rules in them as there isn't anyone to "enforce" them, but maybe you can only battle people with a similiar trainer level to yourself to prevent experienced trainers slaughtering the newbs.

You would have to accept the challenge and trainer levels will be visible, so the 'newb' would know what they were up against

that is the best way to learn... take on someone better than you and get saluted, learn how they did it and do better next time...

Except it would be slightly discouraging and might make someone quit if they just start accept a challenge then get slaughtered then just quit, Battling in the wild will be very good, but they will need some safeguards to prevent this happening, a level indicator is good and so is that you have to accept the challenge you can't just be started on by a trainer out of nowhere, maybe also that there is a "betting" limit and you can only put a certain amount of pokés at risk, this level would increase as you level up and would be based upon the lowest trainer level in the battle.
