News & Announcements / Public Beta coming this december!
« on: August 11, 2011, 09:50:16 PM »
Hello everyone,

Today we had an important team meeting where we made some important decisions regarding Pokemon Universe. Now I'm excited to announce to you all that we have decided to aim to release a public Beta version of the game this december (2011)! No april fools this time ;).

It will feature a brand new map and all the basic features. This time we don't aim to just test our products, but we also want to give you guys a real taste of what we have in store! In time we will release information on features which will be implemented in the first beta release.

See you in december!

We won't forget our long-time members, contributors or simply people that kept us company in chat. Some special area is a possibility. We'll think of something :)

Development / Re: Compiling the source code?
« on: August 03, 2011, 11:02:03 PM »
You have to be sure to compile SDL_ttf and SDL_image yourself, from the mercurial repositories. Especially SDL_ttf because the latest zipped version does not have a certain function that is being used in PU.

Development / Re: Screenshots
« on: August 03, 2011, 10:48:13 PM »
Alot of whats been completed doesn't really have any visual significance.

But if you really want to, I'm sure I can ask for someone to screenshot a wall of code.

It doesnt have to be anything of "visual significance" (pretty ironic a PU pixel artist cant provide this), just any proof the game is even being worked on. The PU development page says that nothing's been updated since the 17th of May. If the game isn't being worked on, it would be better to let us know now than wait til 2012 to deliver the news.
Me and Mr_Dark (the programmers of this game) also have lives. And in these lives we both had to write our bachelor thesis to graduate in the first half of this year. So yeah, no updates since May because we had more important things to do. Developing this game is nothing more than a hobby for us after all, a lot of other stuff goes before it. A break in development from our side doesn't mean the game is never going to be released.

Since the 17th of May there was another update, sadly, just to make the map load faster.
It doesn't prove that the game is going to develop actively ever again.

Today I should have my computer back, and then I can start helping with PU development.
But how much can I do without help from the founders?
Plus: developing a game alone requires infinite motivation - and I'm not one of these guys...

I really hope that if I make something new work in the game, they will join me and help.
There must be a lead developer who decides what to add or change in the game (of course after hearing ideas of others too). I cannot be this one, mainly because I know nothing about Pokemon xD
But I will... you know... know.
Hehe, like I said in the chat, we will have more time again now. And of course the both of us are always still prepared to help out potential new developers like you!

let's see...
I hover 'CHAT' in the yellow menubar and click 'CHAT NOW'

OMG!
I guess we need a voice recognition widget to further reduce the required steps. Scream "I WANT TO CHAT" and the chat window opens up.

News & Announcements / Image hosting site changed
« on: May 16, 2011, 10:36:32 PM »
If you have been using our service p1cture.me as your preferred image hosting site, you should change your bookmarks to our new address: http://www.p1cture.it

The old url (p1cture.me) still works, but it now leads to a service that is not hosted by PU. Only images that will be uploaded on http://www.p1cture.it will be hosted by us!

Note: All p1cture urls on this forum have been automatically adjusted to the new domain. If you have p1cture urls elsewhere, they will still work if you change the .me to .it

Mapping / Common PUME mistakes *PLEASE READ*
« on: May 11, 2011, 09:18:57 AM »
So far I've seen the following happen:

1. Submitting a change without tiles selected
When you submit a change to the map, you will only send the tiles that you have selected using the "Select" tool. Don't forget to do this or we will not receive your changes.

2. Using the editor to make a new map from scratch
When you log in to the editor you only see water. This is because it is the most top-left part of the map. When you scroll to the middle you will find our first island.
The whole PU map gets loaded into the editor so you can make changes to it.
