Pokemon Cross-breeding
« on: March 27, 2011, 11:01:55 PM »
So i thought that a cool idea might be that you can cross breed different pokemon. Im not saying that any combination would work but maybe make a few that pick up certain traits of the other pokemon, or even just colors and types. It would definitely bring a new level to pokemon breeding and it seems like it would be fun for a designer to pick up as an idea. Just a suggestion, and thanks for all the time you are putting into this game I am looking forward to the eventual release.  :)

Do you mean that a pokemon that hatched from an egg would be a cross between the species the parents were if they were two different species of pokemon, or that the pokemon that hatches would be a different color than usual?

I thought maybe seperate from daycare egg breeding. Say a building where a professor is almost gene-splicing pokemon together and if you came across an acceptable pair you could have a uniquely colored pokemon (more-common) or a pokemon of mixed types with color and feature change (far less common). Its just an idea but it is something that has not been done in a pokemon game ever before.  :)

If the pokemon that hatches is a pokemon that hasn't been made by ninendo, then they won't use this idea. If the pokemon is the same species as the mother, but colored like the father, then it might be used.

You guys have any ideas of how many more sprites that's gonna take?

This isnt the greatest of ideas.

Time would have to be wasted on making literally thousands of sprites.

I know it probably won't be used because of the sprites.

Yes, If each evoultion line got it's own coloring, in the monster egg group, there are 68 different pokemon and 28 different evolutionary lines. if there are 28 different colorings for 68 individual pokemon, thats a total of 1904 different colorings. and, that's less than one tenth of all the pokemon in total. So, doesn't ever seem likely to be done, at least not any time soon.

It won't take as many sprites as you think. It would only apply to pokemon of similar looks and types. Example being Salamence and Charizard, it would probably be less than an eighth of the total pokemon would be able to be cross-bred. Just my honest opinion on this.

The idea is rather... nice.. But like Kam has said.. a huge amount of time will be wasted for. =/ Oh.. and if I do remember, there was a similar idea long ago but was rejected. =/

actually this idea wouldn't be too hard if someone were to come up with some equation to go and make it so if you breed to pokemon of different species it would take the father's coloring.

We've talked about switching up the types of pokemon when they reach a certain level, and while I believe a majority of us were for the idea, we never got a definite answer.

I'm not overly fond of this idea, but I wouldn't mind it, if it were in, say, an update ten months after the release.
