I never understood blocking.
I've been practising Judo for 11 years now, and you're taught to never block a punch or a kick.

Judo is very different from Muay Thai. Muay Thai is a bit more agressive, and Judo is a lot closer to wrestling. When you're wrestling, you can't really get anything from blocking, can you? Since Muay Thai doesn't really focus on any kind of grappling, blocking is about the only way to deal with attacks.

And Jerry, mostly, it was holding the blow. Hooks aren't that easy to deviate, and if someone uses a kick that's high enough to easily deviate, they're so bad at fighting you don't even need a technique for taking them out.

Ah! Okay, got it! Good luck training :)

And different disciplines have different ways of 'fighting'. Kung Fu and Tai Chi are very different; I learned both.

How was Tai Chi?
I did an introductory course and found it too slow for my liking.

Lol, it is indeed slow XD
You move slowly... very slowly. If you speed up for fights, the moves are still good :)

Slowness, in fighting? What is this, a video game? No speed = no bite. If you don't move fast, you're not gonna hurt the guy.

Either way, I think I might learn a little judo when I'm done with Muay Thai. Breaking a nose is great, but your elbows don't offer much range when dealing with an armed enemy.

Tai Chi is more to keep yourself fit. The slow movements require much effort, you'll see ;)

In a fight, speed up, the same movements will do :)

I was planning to :P Not for the reflexes so much as being able to take down someone that has a weapon with minimal risk, and I think Judo is the most suitable style for that.

Nah, I think I'm good where I am :) I just need to try to stay fit, which is quite difficult right now.

Okay, I found out why she's coming. She's coming because this is so freaking difficult that I probably would've walked away if she hadn't been there as a reminder of why I'm doing this. Seriously. I feel like there's a rusted metal steak jammed into my spine.
